Lets see you do 6 five gallon pails of water up your basement stairs a minute. Now you know why Steven Harris says, "When a disaster happens, you are stuck right where you are.

Just plug it in and rip through the wood with your inverter and battery. Truly, this is the closest you are going to get to a light saber. I own and use multiple electric chain saws for 20 years. I love 'em. If that set of wires gets hit by a high rock, or curb you are going over or it gets shorted together you'll have a dead short on your vehicle battery and the wire will glow red and melt and short circuit worse and easily cause a vehicle fire.

Instead of putting in a fuse, also listed here, I'm using this circuit breaker. That way if it shorts, the breaker will switch everything off. Its water proof so it can go under the hood of the car.

Amazon and the internet is the only place I've seen this. These are heavy duty 4 gauge jumper cables. These are 16 feet long, go to this page and you can select from the drop down menu a pair of 25 foot cables. I suggest the long ones. I show how to use jumper cables and your car to recharge your battery bank in the Battery Bank Video above. Not only can these be used to charge your home battery from the car, but if the car battery is dead, you can jump the car from your marine battery you have at home.

Without a pair of jumper cables, your car and your battery bank are 2 separated worlds that cannot help each other. Connect them together and have 2 is 1, 1 is none. Keep your valuable jumper cables you just purchased out of the rain and weather and keep them protected. Get this nice simple bag that keeps them all wrapped up and stored easily so when you need them you can get to them fast and use them and KNOW they are going to work and are in good condition.

If you solder two wires together and don't have the time or desire to put heat shrink tubing around them then you wrap them up tight with electrical tape. It'll work and work good. If its a connection for a few months or a year or two Available at all hardware stores or big box stores.

Since I had the irons and the heat shrink tubing here, I put the solder here as well. Might as well get all the stuff at once. Available at all hardware or big box stores. This little kit is a great option for putting 2 wires together if you are not going to solder them and then shrink wrap them.

This is normally a neater connection than a wire nut, but not as fast to do. Its a good kit to have incase you are going to have to make some modifications or fixes.

Way more money for this at Radio Shack. Harbor Freight might have something like this. I used this kit several times while making the battery bank videos, especially for hooking up a cord to the light base for the LED light in the mobile battery bank.

Its a bargain and a huge time saver. If you are going to make a mobile battery bank, as I say in the video, get TWO of these kits.

They will save you a fortune over buying these at Home Depot or Ace Hardware! You can see the propane in the clear bottom. I almost never use an electric soldering iron any more because I don't want to wait for it to warm up. This warms up in seconds, ready to go in 10 seconds or less, puts a lot of heat onto what I solder, which now is mostly wires, and not delicate circuit boards.

This is the perfect soldering iron to have in the field. Runs on cans of butane you use for any cigarette lighter that you get from Walmart or anywhere. They make a VERY nice butane one that you see here. If you can't get the one above, then get this one. Or if you just prefer Weller, get this one. This does not have a clear portion to see the propane.

So in the video you see me using this propane torch. Some more, some less. The BEST one you could buy would be this one. Either way, with inverters we are usually hooking up to the screw downs, so if you need more, you just put these around the posts and you have them.

These terminals are bare metal not painted and therefore you can also CLAMP onto them with big CLIPS that are on watt class inverters, or with clips that you might have going to a standard cigarette lighter power outlet.

Like the RoadPro one on this page. Also available at Walmart in the auto section. Invariably something is going to go wrong, something break or come loose and you are going to have to join some wire together quickly to get it to work, or to run a power line someplace or whatever.

No quicker way to make a good mechanical connection between two wires than wire nuts. This is a great assortment at a great price. Won't find 'em this cheap in Home Depot. Now you need to cover up that exposed soldered wire so it does not hit something.

Slide over a piece of this heat shrink tubing and heat it with a match, or a cigarette lighter or your butane soldering iron above and it will shrink and hold your new connection and insulate it as good as its going to get. Very overpriced for this stuff at Radio Shack. You'll need 4 of them to connect a 12 volt battery to a 12 volt battery. You'll need 6 gauge to connect the battery in the front of your pickup to the battery bank in the back of your pickup.

They'll cut it for you in the wire department, just tell them how many feet of it you want. Allway Tool Inc. This wire brush makes quick and easy work of cleaning up the battery terminals under the hood of your vehicle. You can also buy these in the paint section of Home Depot. If you are going to run a wire through a case, this is what you want to get.

Its a steal, just order and have it show up and have plenty. There you hook up lights, small TV, AA battery chargers, radio etc That Power supply has a lot of uses Make sure you have a GOOD external antenna like this one if you are going to get the radio, it will screw into the handheld unit where the DC cable is. To do this, you have to clip off the DC plug and crimp on wire connectors above and when you do this you don't know which of the terminals is positive because the wires are black.

So you have to use an OHM meter to check the continuity of the wire to KNOW which one is positive, it takes 10 seconds and is easy, I show you in the video but to do that you need just a simple, plain, easy to use, inexpensive multimeter and this is one of those. In the video, I cover up some connections with the 3M Electrical Tape listed above , and its good stuff You wrap it around your electrical connections and it fuses to itself, it become all one piece, just as if you had put a piece of heat shrink tubing over it but a lot easier.

This can be used to fix radiator hoses and other car related stuff, that's why its called rescue tape. DO NOT test this on your fingers to see if it works, your two fingers will become one. These are adhesive and you can put a wood screw right through the center of them and into the back of the board on the bottom of the lid on the mobile truck battery box. Don't even bother burning the fuel or the time to go to the store to get them, get a 10 year supply of them right here and color code your battery box with these.

I put one of these connectors on the battery box, and one on the solar panel, and then I make solar panel DC voltage extension cable with 12 gauge red and black wire twisted in a drill and put these connectors on them so its easy to plug in my solar panel to the truck, and to have it on any side of the truck I want I have 25 feet of wire to work with. Two are needed for the project, you need a third incase you mess one up : Nah You'll be fine.

You don't heat or cool a whole room just to cool you. A fan blowing on your face works great for keeping you cool, especially when you are running on 1 Marine Battery for your Home Battery Bank.

This fan will work great for that application. Its a DC fan Keep it simple. If you are not going DC only and using an inverter, I suggest you get a volt version of this fan. So this would be a good fan for an emergency. I really think you can get a good 6" or 10" AC fan cheaper from a local store, but its winter here and there are no fans on the store shelves.

Keep an eye out for good small AC fans on sale when its summer time. It charges each battery individually, so you can put in 1 battery, 2, 3, 5, 7 or 8 at once. When you put it in, it starts to charge it. It takes about 1 hours to charge one battery, but you can charge 8 at a time.

Also, there is an LCD display for each battery, so you know when each one is charged. The 1 hour charger has a huge power supply that comes with it. This one has a nice small 'wall wart' power supply. Its Jack and Steve approved!! DO NOT buy the charger they have.

I don't like it. I have exhaustively tested the eneloop batteries for years on my lab bench and in all of my personal gear. They are the batteries I carry the most. These eneloops can be charged and used up to times each. That's a lot of charging.

You can trust and depend on these. Shame on the pink bunny. Also many of the inexpensive tactical lights use AAA batteries so they are handy for that purpose. Want to hold 12 AA battts? This link will give you an entire page of ones to choose from.

Its not 'on' but drawing a small amount of current waiting for you to press the 'on' button. That is called a 'soft on'. Its made for contractors so its durable as heck and can take a beating. It does run on 3 AAA batteries.

I wish it was AA's, but its not. So make sure you get some of the Eneloop AAA rechargeable batteries above. This is an excellent "Small Light" and the bright mode is good, but not quite emergency light bright, but close.

Its the brightest maglight flashlight made and its very small and hides in the bottom of your pocket until you want to light up something like its daylight. This would make vampires run for cover and smoke. Its Lumens This is over double that. I've been using this flashlight for the last 7 months on a daily basis and have fallen in love with its quality and its performance.

I run this on 3 AAA eneloop batteries all the time. This main use of this light is for 'finding a lost child'. Its too much light for normal stuff. Its an emergency light. I wanted you to have a AAA headlamp and flashlight option and I wanted you to have a AA headlamp and flashlight option. So I found and got this AA headlamp and it has been a real trooper for me. Its going with me when I travel. One thing I LOVE about it, its got a 3 Lumen mode on it just necessary amount of light and it'll run for about 53 hours on 1 AA battery in that light mode.

It has a dim mode, a bright mode, a flashing mode and you can unscrew the cap off and use the cap as a base to hold up the flashlight like a candle stick and the bare LED lights up the whole room like a candle would, but it does it for 31 hours on low on 2 AA batteries. The important thing about this is that it SIPS energy for 31 hours on low and it will provide 'enough' light in an entire room or more than enough light when directed onto something, plus its got its bright mode for finding something outside in the dark.

So if there an a battery you have to put away and not use it till you darn well need it then its a Duracell D Cell Alkaline battery. So here is the awesome flashlight to go with the batteries.

This is an "Emergency Light" It also qualifies as a "Room Light" because the cap comes off and it stands up like a candle. It will light your house and work area just fine. If you are Law Enforcement or Search and Rescue then you might consider this flashlight because it too uses 3 D Cell batteries but its Lumens, about 3x more than the maglight flashlight. For preppers on a budget, don't get this. You need 3 types of lights. Reading, looking in drawers, walking around the house etc..

Emergency Light: 2, 3 watts or more LEDs, 80, , , lumens for finding lost children in the night type of stuff. Something you can put in a room with 4 people and light the place up decently because you are going to be there and you have energy to spare.

If are charging D Cell batteries from your car, you have energy to spare. This lamp uses 3 D cell batteries and will use the D Cell Tenergy batteries above just perfectly.

This is a 'room' type of light. The Rayvac is awesome too, and at a better price. The advantage of the coast is not that its brighter, but it is, but its got a varible brightness knob on it.

You can turn it up and down to any brightness you like. Coast is an even higher quality than maglight, but don't forget, maglight is more than good enough. This lantern also uses 4 D Cells where the Rayovac uses 3 D cells.

It use to be at Walmart, but its not anymore. Its just an awesome outlet strip with 8 outlets on it. Its got a nice heavy cord that wraps around the whole thing neatly and its a nice bright neon green so you can easily find it in your box of emergency supplies when you are getting it out in the next blackout.

This is a piece of quality that will NOT let you down. I have one plugged into the end of almost every extension cable. If you are doing something improvised at someone's house with power, half the time they still are in the dark ages and only have two prong outlets. It does not need 3 prongs. I commonly use 2 wire extension cords when I travel for my laptop and other electronics and these allow anything to plug into these nice thin, easy, low power cords to get electricity.

If you think you need 4 of these, then get 8. You are using just a few hundred watts, the thin extension cable below can easily handle that, now you have plenty of outlets to plug in your cell phones, ipads, androids and other small electronics to get charge them up. Like the orange T adapter, you can plug as many of these into themselves as you desire to have all the outlets you want.

They are all you need for running electronics from an inverter. This one is 15 foot, which is the size I usually get. They also come in 6 and 9 foot at the stores. Want to light a place up? I string a bunch of the 6 footers together with the ends tied together and then I plug in LED light bulbs with an adapter into the cord and I have an LED light bulb ever 6 foot and you can string this up in a room off the floor. Use this cable with one of the 2 prong adapters above and you can run your laptop to any outlet you desire, if 15 feet is not enough, use 2.

I use this in air ports when I travel all the time. There is never an outlet close enough. Hurricane 3 Days Away? Those 60 pound batteries above, will show up overnight. Order on Tuesday, its on your door step Wednesday!! UPS does not deliver during a storm, but they sure as heck deliver before it.

Right up to it and if the roads are clear, they'll deliver after the storm. From Actual Amazon Review- " After reading all the reviews on this generator, I decided it would be a good inexpensive unit and running off propane was a big selling point. I ordered it on Friday and it was delivered on Monday.

Yeah Amazon!!! Plus you get free movies, free TV shows like a Netflix thing and much more. Instead of burning diesel fuel to go to Wal-Mart to buy cat food, I have Amazon send it to me with free 2 day shipping. Saves me time and fuel and money, and the cat food is cheaper than it is at Wal-Mart. I am a very big fan and user of Amazon prime.

Usually a lot less. I have been emailed many times, thank you, with people asking if they can assist me with stuff. The answer is YES. I need help. I need people to look at some video clips, to see if I explained something well, I need feedback on different things, 1st class opinions and I do need people to help me with some social media, putting up a post on Facebook or to put out a tweet to help get the word out about what we are doing to help others.

This is NOT our general email list. This is a private little group and I'll only send things specifically to this group. You need items to treat your digestive system Priority 4. You need items to treat your respiratory system. When I get a cut or a scrape or something bleeding, I just wrap this tape around it. It cover and closes up the wound and does a good job of taking care of the blood. If its really a bleeder I put some paper towel under the tape over the wound or I cut a piece of the Maxi-Pad below and put that on it and then tape over it.

There is hardly a quicker and easier way to take care of a small to medium sized wound than this tape. Hold down a piece of paper towel, maxi-pad, 4x4 gauze, or other dressing. Get it Here. Its specifically made to adsorb blood and a lot of it. These are individually wrapped and "sanitary". There are more of these made in on day in the USA than there are of 4x4 gauze bandages in an entire year. Use the whole thing or use the scissors below and cut a piece to size and tape it on down.

This is as inexpensive as it gets for making your own bandages and dressings. These are TOP rated and inexpensive. Get these in 5. Spray it on and let it dry. Multiple applications are suggested. Works really good on rashes and skin wounds on elbows or knees or other areas that flex and that a bandage won't adhere to very well because of movement. This is just one skin care tool in your first aid box of knowledge and tools.

Its increasingly hard to find in stores and people are ordering it online now. Just open the syringe, open the sterile water, pull the water into the syringe and then irrigate the wound and clean it up. Use along with sterile pads above to help clean up. There are larger bottles of sterile water available, like ml bottles here , but this ml bottle fits into a small medical kit just fine and its more than enough to do most jobs. Need more than this, you better be getting some professional medical treatment soon.

In fact, get it anyway, if you can. Also very commonly used to wash and clean a wound, irritation or infection. Stop the bleeding, clean the blood off and use these "Butteryfly Closure Strips" also called by the 3M name brand of "Steri-Strips" to pull the would together and to close it up as good as you can. If you'd like the original name brand 3M Steri-Strips you can get them here.

Glue it shut. Or close it with some Steri-Strips above and then put the glue on it to hold it extra shut. In emergencies people have used regular super glue for closing wounds. There is a more expensive version of this made for humans, but this is the exact same stuff made for animals and its a lot cheaper.

Read on the Amazon feedback on how people have used it on themselves. This stops the wound from bleeding, along with your pressure. You can then put a pressure dressing below on it and then you are going to have to seek medical treatment. This is not a fix, this just stops you from bleeding so you can get yourself alive to professional trauma based medical care.

There is a 10 pack of smaller 2 Gram packets of Celox HERE that you can use on smaller cuts and bleeds that are being stubborn, something that would require from 0 to a few stitches.

Can be used to insert into and to pack a bad wound to stop it from bleeding, can be wrapped around a wound on its own to stop bleeding, can be wrapped around something that is over or covering a wound, infection or area of irritation, can be used to make an improvised sling for an arm.

Can be tied tight over another roll of kerlix to make a compression bandage. You can cut it and put it in an antiseptic like iodine solution to wipe a wound area clean. It wraps around any part of your body, has all of the stuff built into it so you can pull and tie it tight and its got a large, very adsorbent compression bandage on it for stopping blood flow.

I have been formally trained in the use of the CAT as well as the IBD above and the use of Celox above and I can tell you that this is THE item to have to stop heavy bleeding in an extremity arm or leg. It can be used 1 handed, its operation is very intuitive, but still practice with it. Wrap it around , cinch it down, turn the windlass till the blood flow stops and then tuck the end of the windlass into its holder.

Keep your skin clean so rashes and cuts won't get infected. Wash and disinfect your rashes and your cuts and your blisters and other skin problems. STOP nothing from being a small problem, stop small problems from being a big problem.

Works very good for cleaning up scrapes and road rash. Take some cotton balls, or pieces of maxi-pad above and soak them in alcohol and start to clean up around the affected area. Get the dirt, the blood, the grime and the germs off the area around the wound. Generally alcohol is not used for cleaning the inside of the wound itself, but for cleaning up everything around it.

Don't forget to use this on your hands to clean up your hands before you start helping someone. Wipe your hands with this and then leave it on, wait a good 15 seconds, for it to kill the germs on your hands.

You remember this stuff from being a kid, your mother would pour it on a wound or a scab and it would fizzle up with white foam and bubbles. This is a disinfectant used for the outside of your body. Then it should be covered with a clean bandage or surgical tape see above for tape see below for more wound coverings If you have a cut or scrape that is getting infected, clean it 2x to 3x a day with betadine and put a fresh bandage over it. Do you need some sterile wash water for cleaning your hands or a wound?

Put ONE of these wipes in a quart of clear water, shake it up, and let it sit for 30 minutes. Then use that water for cleaning or washing a wound area. The iodine concentration is way to high. This is just a quick and easy trick. This little bottle has many applications in it. I guess the smallest and most compact form would be the wipes above, but you only get 1 use per wipe. This just has a glass stem in it that you use to put the iodine directly on the infected area.

This would be the most milage with the smallest space. Alcohol Prep 2ply. Also, use these to also clean your hands before you eat or before you treat someone else. These are less than half the price of Purell Hand Sanitizing Wipes and do the same thing. I mention above about using iodine to clean up wounds, but there is nothing better putting an actual anti-biotic onto the wound. Before modern antibiotics people died of infections from cuts that became infected.

Even as simple as a poke from a rose thorn killed people. Antibiotics will prevent an infection from being a problem and in a blackout situation where the infrastructure is down, and you are not showing daily, you will get dirty and things will get infected. So iodine on wounds is good, antibiotics are excellent. You might have a tube of antibiotics for yourself and family, but the packets to give away or to treat other people.

Many times small irritations can be very distracting for adults or a constant annoyance for children. A little of the right type of ointment can take care of a lot of those problems. It'd heal up the skin pretty quickly. This works very well on anything that is itching, irritated and needs some salve on it. If this does not cure the irritation or skin problem you'll have to try the hydrocortisone cream below.

This is a 10oz tin, so its not something that goes into a little kit or that you carry with you when you travel. There is a great 1oz tin of this, just a smaller version of what you see on the photo. The 1oz is just enough for a few problems and small enough to travel with you. Don't' forget the 1 oz tin. Its awesome for small kits! Some people like Porters, some like Bag Balm, it depends on what part of the country you are from and what was on the store shelves when you were a child.

My wife had an allergenic reaction on her ear from a new ear ring. Bag balm and Porters would not stop the itching so I had to run to the store to get some hydrocortisone and the itching stopped in 30 seconds.

However, this would not treat, dry, cracked skin like the bag balm or porters would. Different problems, different solutions. I like the small packets because you can put them in a very small kit, just enough for a few days, and you can also give a packet to a friend and you can still have 2 or 3 left in your little travel kit.

These conditions will occur when things stop working or you find yourself way from modern toilets. Desitin is a thick zinc oxide cream and its used to treat diaper rash, and you know what creates diaper rash.

Well if you don't clean yourself up good enough each time you'll get the same thing. If you've every heard the saying, "that person is an irritating A-hole" then you know from where that saying comes if you've ever had an irritated dumper.

Desitin is also commonly used as a sunblock on your nose if you are particularly sensitive to the sunshine and your hat does not effectively cover your whole face. This is normally used to treat seasonal allergies, however it does work on other allergic reactions as well. It also makes you sleepy, so its good as a sleep aid in a disaster, you might have trouble sleeping.

It also has mild anti-nausea side effects so if you are puking, or feel like it, it might give you some relief. He says he's a big baby when it comes to splinters but he can run 50 miles and does triathlons and such.

So I found the most excellent pair of sliver removers available with the highest ratings there are. I like them so much, I have some on the way for my personal medical kit. Nothing like a stuck blister to get infected, red, swollen, and then all full of puss, just so the body can force it out on its own, unless you get blood poisoning first.

It hurts. Protect your lips from getting chapped and help them heal when they do. These are very small, inexpensive and so very effective.

This is an important part of any medical kit. It can make it painful to drink and eat and is just annoying as heck. You're in a disaster, last thing you need is more annoyance. Especially if its your children that are getting annoyed. This is one of my personal favorites for a lip balm.

It tastes good, smells good and comes in a nice hard plastic shell. This is 'medicated' lip balm so it'll help heal your lips if they've already gotten sore. I don't really want to use your lip balm after you've put it on your sore, infected lips. However this is a little tin of lip balm. You put your finger in it and then rub it on your lips. So if have to share with someone its a lot less gross than sharing your stick of lip balm.

Any of these 3 will do just fine, but this is a 3 pack, and now you can have one all to yourself, plus a spare, and one to give away to a good friend in need. If its painful for you to walk, you are slowed way down or you are not walking and moving. If you can't walk you can't keep ahead of the zombies. One day in wet boots or shoes can give you tremendous problems.

Always take time to dry your shoes and socks at night, or when ever you can if you are in a wet environment.

Clean Socks!! Ask ANY soldier. Go to wikipedia and read about WWI trench foot. Very quickly you can find yourself NOT being able to walk. If you can't move, you can't keep ahead of the zombie herd. If you get into a wet foot environment, your boots or shoes are wet all day, you can get this. I use to have this problem a long time ago, but this stopped it dead in its tracks. I've not had it in 15 years. I like the cream because you can put it on the affected areas and it stays there, and I can goop it on to put more medicine on it.

This is probably the best option. It goes on with a very nice cooling feeling. Plus, if someone else has a fungal infection, and you have to treat it like your child you don't want to be rubbing your fingers all over their infected feet, so its easier just to apply the medication a spray can. The cream is the smallest, most compact form of the medication and would work best for traveling. There are many other brands of this same medication, this is just one that I used that worked very well for me.

Cushioning gel pad relieves pain while protecting the blister. Waterproof, superior adhesive stays in place for multi-day use. Flexible form conforms to skin for greater fit and comfort. Seals out water, dirt, and germs that can cause infection. This is nice because its got different cutouts for different blisters.

However I am NOT a fan of things that are 'pre-made' and I prefer for you to have the basics to take care of things yourself. So if one of the Band-Aid items above does not work, because they are so simple, then get the moleskin below and use it to cut our or tape up your own blisters on your own body to your own needs.

On your foot, hand, or any other place that is getting a blister. Cut out squares of it and put it in a zip lock bag and put it in your medical bag etc You do not have to treat and fix what did not happen. DO NOT hold cotton socks, they hold water.
